Introduction
Just four hours up the coast from Ho Chi Minh City lies the stunning Mui Ne Peninsula, an area of pristine beaches and towering sand dunes of the sort more commonly associated with the Sahara than the Vietnamese coastline.
The dunes reflect the arid climate of the region, Vietnam's driest, which experiences negligible rainfall and sunny weather almost year round.
You'll also find some of Vietnam's best resorts and superb water-sport facilities, as well as the busy fishing centres of Mui Ne and Phan Thiet, where fishermen continue to use traditional round coracles to bring their catch ashore.
