Introduction
Known as the ‘Vanilla Island' and shaped like a flower, Taha'a sits to the east of Bora Bora and is just across the water from its nearest and larger neighbour, Ra'iatea.
The island is a centre for two of French Polynesia's most famous exports, pearls and vanilla, and the sweet scent of the latter lingers long in the air.
The island's easily navigable lagoon and safe anchorages make it popular with sailors, while divers can explore the underwater wrecks and grottoes, frequented year-round by reef sharks and enormous Napoleon wrasse.
