Introduction
Discover the vibrant colours, spectacular coastline, distinctive culture and mesmerising music of this country at the heart of the Caribbean.
Though it has the same brilliant beaches and all-inclusive resorts as elsewhere, Jamaica also has a clear affinity with Africa. Kingston, the cultural heart and capital, was the link for slaves arriving and sugar or rum leaving. Visit the Bob Marley Museum here to take the pulse of the place or head to Nine Mile to see Jamaica's most revered icon's birth and final resting place.
Head to Montego Bay to explore the region's colonial architecture and lavish resorts, which are complemented by top golf courses, restaurants, clubs and shops. A long reef protects the bay and is good for diving; stay on the beaches or visit the sugar plantations, the Appleton Rum Factory or the Rockland Feeding Station to see birds.
The impressive coastline around Negril has popular beaches and some of the finest seafood on the island. Ocho Rios is home to Dunn's River Falls, a crystal clear waterfall that can be walked up like a staircase. Walkers should also travel to the Blue Mountains; the forested heights are home to butterflies, birds and flowering plants while the lower slopes are where delicious coffee is cultivated.
