Location
Hidden among the dunes of Cape Range National Park, where the outback meets the reef, Sal Salis enjoys a unique location. Spot kangaroos hopping about the dunes, listen out for humpback whales and snorkel with turtles in the coral reef, while keeping an eye out for filter-feeding whale sharks. Or, simply, relax on the white sands. Head in the opposite direction and you’ll find walks through Acacia trees and spinifex to the rock shelters and gorges that tell the story of 30,000 years of human habitation. Be sure to look out for the black-footed rock wallabies, honeyeaters and emus.
Accommodation
Sal Salis brings a touch of style and luxury to this remote wilderness. Each of the sixteen luxury tents has large draping doors opening out to wooden gangplanks, which lead down to the beach. Designed to blend in with their surroundings, the spacious tents sit on raised platforms for sea views. Inside, you’ll find eco en suite bathrooms and handmade jarrah beds are fitted with 500 thread count organic cotton sheets.
Dining
Meals are shared with fellow guests either at the lodge or al fresco on the deck. Menus vary daily depending on the seasonal availability of local produce with special care made to express bush flavours and fresh seafood. A hot breakfast is complemented by fresh fruit, cereal and a selection of bread and condiments followed by a light lunch. Dinner is a three-course affair with dishes including pan fried garlic Exmouth prawns and eye fillet of beef wrapped in pancetta in a brandy sauce. Whether you are on a gorge walk or down by the beach, canapés are served at sunset.
Facilities
Escape the heat of the day at Sal Salis’s main lodge, where you can relax on a shaded sun lounger and put the self-service bar to good use. You can also unwind over a board game or do a spot of light reading in the small reference library. Far away from civilisation, the area is known as having excellent night-time views of the Milky Way. Aside from the aforementioned snorkelling and gorge walks, guests can also take a guided kayak tour over the corals or participate in a variety of fishing expeditions.
