Location

Set just back from Wellington’s harbour waterfront, you’ll be within touching distance of the city’s major attractions and just five kilometres from its airport. The New Zealand capital’s iconic cable car – bringing you to its expansive Botanical Gardens and the excellent Carter Observatory – is just a short stroll away. As is the city’s shopping precinct where, aside from stylish boutiques, you can indulge with Wellington’s famed coffee culture. Alternatively, head out into the surrounds for charming Victorian timber houses that overlook the city limits’ bushy hillsides, home to wildlife reserves and forest walks alike. You might even spot the nocturnal kiwi in its native habitat along with a range of excellent vantage points.

Accommodation

Accommodation, as you’d expect from InterContinental, is precisely modern and faultlessly presented. Starting with the Classic Rooms – set on levels two or four – all rooms feature views out over Wellington along with plush seating areas. Moving up to the Executive Rooms and the views improve; select the Deluxe option for spa baths and harbour vistas or opt for the Club level for access to the luxurious Club Lounge. Lastly, Suites are ideal for an extended stay, with separate lounge areas and yet more harbour panoramas. Wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.

Dining

At the InterContinental, you’ll have full a range of dining options. Arizona is its American offering, where Wellingtonians have enjoyed gourmet burgers and themed drinks for over 24 years. The ever-changing menus of the Chameleon Restaurant are equally enticing, with local dishes taking centre stage. For something more relaxed, make your way to The Lobby Lounge. Its urbane atmosphere hosts an extensive range of tea and coffee options, complemented by a menu of light meals.

Facilities

Having reopened in September 2016, the hotel’s pool is as refreshed as its guests. Return from a day’s sightseeing to a sauna session or a soak in the hot tub. The pool itself is particularly enticing, surrounded by glass on all sides – including the roof. There’s also a fitness centre and a full range of spa treatments on offer. Less tangibly, the concierge is particularly good and able to recommend from Wellington’s dazzling array of attractions, eateries and bars.
