The Manse, Hawke’s Bay

Location

This exclusive luxury lodge is set on a hill overlooking the beautiful Hawke’s Bay countryside, peering out beyond the green undulations to its mountainous backdrop. It borders the world-renowned Gimblett Gravels and Ngatarawa wine regions, providing the perfect base to visit its famous wineries and enjoy the Mediterranean climate. The lodge itself was originally built for the local vicar in 1910 and was subsequently moved – by traction engine – to its present site for its elevated views across the Heretaunga Plains.

Accommodation

Elegantly furnished with a certain European flair, The Manse’s spacious living areas lead on to its two suites. A plasticising resort this is not. Instead, you’ll be treated to complimentary home baked cookies, antique furnishings and fresh fruit while underfloor heating, Nespresso machines and king size beds draped in Italian Frette linen ensure that you’re not without your luxuries. Complimentary WiFi is available throughout the lodge, ensuring that you’ll stay connected.

Dining

Pre-dinner drinks and canapés are offered each evening and guests wake to a gourmet breakfast served indoors or out. Being a gentleman's farm, you can expect a full range of locally sourced goodness. The same goes for the tailor-made dinners, cooked by your excellent host, Gary. Think indulgent multi-course menus that start with stuffed figs from the farm’s trees, stop off at pan-fried pheasant delights and end with a rich pavlova.

Facilities

The owners, Dietske and Gary, are the perfect hosts. Speaking English, Dutch, French and German, you’ll be well looked after with a professional golf buddy, cooking course or tour of the farm, meeting the sheep, pigs, cattle and free-range hens. More tangibly, the lodge’s verandahs and patios open on to the gardens and pool while the library is stocked with Cuban cigars and malt whiskies. Aside from the cigar and whisky tastings, activities include 4WD adventures, clay bird shooting, fly fishing and tours of the local vineyards.
