Activity adventure | Natural world
Departing the northern area of Kakadu National Park, you will cross over Cahill's Crossing on the East Alligator River, arriving at Arnhem Land. A drive through the Gunbalanya Aboriginal community will reveal some of the best views in the Top End. You will visit the Injalak Arts and Craft Centre, watching local craftspeople in action.
Established in 1989, Injalak Arts is an Aboriginal organisation supporting the production of quality Aboriginal art. Today, Injalak's artists produce authentic art inspired by ancient dreamtime stories, images from the nearby rock art galleries and an unbroken link between the present generation of Kunwinjku people and their ancestors. This offers an intimate setting to get to know the artist and see firsthand how artworks are created. An Aboriginal guide will show you the stunning rock art on Injalak Hill – regarded as home to some of the finest rock art in Australia, dating back up to 8,000 years old. Enjoy lunch from the top of the hill, taking in the vast floodplains around the Anhem Land escarpment, while under the shade of one of the many hanging edges.
