Billed as ‘the pilot’s favourite’ route, this helicopter tour takes in some of the North Island’s most majestic alpine scenery. You’ll be treated to views of the region’s World Heritage volcanoes – Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe – and their steaming crater lakes, historic lava flows, glacial valleys and dramatic volcanic formations, some of which are only visible from the air. Don’t forget your camera, your steady flight will be ideal for some high-altitude photography. You’ll then get up close with an alpine wilderness landing at the crystal-clear Rangitikei River, home to trophy-sized rainbow trout. Along the way, you’ll also enjoy giant vistas of Lake Taupo and its surrounding hills, carpeted in dense forest.
