Introduction
British Airways' introduction of new, non-stop flights to Durban, South Africa, in October 2018, means getting to South Africa's third city and the superb KwaZulu-Natal region is more accessible than ever before.
Flights to Durban operate three times a week, on Mondays, Thursday and Saturdays, on the state-of-the-art 787 Dreamliner in Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller. The new route will add to the daily non-stop services to Cape Town and Johannesburg, meaning the UK and South Africa will never have been so well connected; this route is also ideal for open-jaw combinations with Johannesburg and Cape Town flights.
The Drakensberg Mountains
This means a whole host of new possibilities in South Africa have opened up, with the chance to explore KwaZulu-Natal’s beaches, wildlife, the Drakensberg mountains and the famous historical battlefields. The region is also home to a variety of natural and historical attractions, including the UNESCO World Heritage sites of uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park and iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
Elephant, Phinda Game Reserve, KwaZulu-Natal
Durban is South Africa's third largest city and known as one of the country's best seaside escapes, with lively nightlife and an emerging café, shopping and cultural scene, surrounded by the wildlife-rich game reserves of KwaZulu-Natal. Its myriad Indian influences mean authentic curry houses and bustling marketplaces selling spices abound, while the white-sand seafront is home to swells fantastic for surfers. Just a couple of hours away are the wildlife-rich savannahs of KwaZulu-Natal, where the Big Five as well as numerous other wildlife thrive. Shopping galleries, high-end eateries and bars delight in the glamorous Greyville, Morningside and Berea, while the city is also home to an abundance of botanical gardens and nature reserves, and, further afield, the dramatic Drakensberg mountains and stunning coastal dune forests of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
