Wagner's Ring Cycle is an epic experience for both the performers and audience alike, consisting of four separate operas, lasting 15 hours. Opera Australia's spectacular production returns to Melbourne in 2016, when it will be performed three times during November and December, each time over the course of 8 days, with rest days between each opera, to allow the performers to recover. 

The Ring Cycle is a fantastic tale of gods, mortals, giants, dwarves and dragons, somewhat in the tradition of The Lord of the Rings. It has a huge cast of characters and requires an extraordinary orchestra of 135 musicians.

Performances of the full Ring Cycle are relatively infrequent and fans travel all over the world to see them. In Melbourne, the Ring Cycle will be performed three times during November and December 2016. This production of The Ring Cycle was premiered in Melbourne in 2013 and is directed by Neil Armfield, one of Australia's most respected directors.  

Reviewing the Melbourne Ring Cycle in 2013, the American magazine Classical Voice said,

"The verdict was pretty much unanimous: this was one of the best Rings anywhere in a long time."
