Introduction
The Indian Subcontinent is rich in wildlife and the wide range of national parks and wildlife reserves here mean that you can spot a diverse collection of animals and birds, many of which can't be seen elsewhere.
Wildlife holdiays in India often revolve around the search for tigers; travel to the central wildlife parks such as Bandhavgarh National Park, Corbett National Park<, Kanha National Park, Kaziranga National Park, Pench National Park or Ranthambhore for the best chance to spot this iconic animal. You might also see leopard here, along with spotted or barking deer and gazelle.
Look out for sloth bears in Tadoba National Park; spy Asiatic lions at Sasan Gar and see Gangetic dolphins in the Chambal Sanctuary, which is also a bird watchers' paradise. Elephants are best seen in the southern parks of Nagarhole, Thekkady and Periyar, whilst bears are known to live in Corbett and Kanha.
View game from a coracle, cycle rickshaw or even the back of an elephant for a unique experience. It's also possible to take a walking safari to get especially close to the animals you're looking for.
Outside of India, look for tigers in Manas Wildlife Sanctuary in Bhutan, which is also home to elephants and rhinos. Bardia or Chitwan National Parks in Nepal also hide tigers and you may also be lucky enough to spot elephants, rhinos and leopard here. Watch elephants in Minneriya, Uda Walawe or Yala National Park in Sri Lanka, which are also home to crocodiles, deer and monkeys.
