When to visit Tanzania
Introduction
Tanzania's location near the equator means that it is blessed with long sunny days most of the year. Temperatures are generally warm but comfortable year-round, typically ranging between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius, although it is usually cooler in the highlands. Masika, the long rains - also known as the 'green season' - runs from March to June, while a second, shorter rainy season, mvuli, takes place in November/December.
October to March is considered the hottest season and this coincides with the peak season on Zanzibar. Humidity is more noticeable near the coast than inland, although cooling ocean breezes mean that it is never overbearing.
The wildebeest migration in the Serengeti occurs from November to June, while May to September is the best season for trekking.
