Location
Set on two hectares of landscaped grounds and home to unique native plants and birds, this luxury boutique lodge offers stunning panoramic views over Lake Taupo, Acacia Bay and the snow-capped Kaimanawa mountains. Enjoy a trail walk down to Lake Taupo or take it all in on a spectacular scenic flight over the region’s volcanoes. There’s also excellent trout fishing, golf and hiking in the region. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is particularly impressive.
Accommodation
Designed with a contemporary New Zealand flair, Acacia Cliffs maximises its spectacular setting by combining the character of the original pole house with contemporary chic. The four designer suites off floor-to-ceiling views of Lake Taupo or the lodge’s tranquil garden setting and each come with their own private furnished outdoor spaces. Back inside, feather and down covered super king or twin beds and pillow menus make for a good night’s sleep. All feature a spacious en suite, complete with double basin, walk in rainforest shower and underfloor heating while the garden suite has the added luxury of a freestanding bath.
Dining
Dining is a real highlight at Acacia Cliffs. You’ll enjoy a bottle of New Zealand wine on arrival, pre-dinner drinks and canapés and excellent full breakfasts, all included in the price. The latter, taken on one of the lodge’s sun-drenched decks or even in the comfort of your bedroom, is completely made to order; think gourmet cooked offerings and fresh fruit favourites. Dinner is similarly tailored, featuring a daily menu, which can be adjusted in advanced notice. Candlelit, three course table d’hote meals are prepared by the in-house chef and are a tour de force of fine gastronomy and regional influence, realised by locally sourced produce selected daily from local providers and the lodge’s garden.
Facilities
Large sliders and bi-folds open out onto stunning decks and outdoor garden areas where you can relax with a view and a good book on the provided loungers. To explore further, mountain bikes are available for your complimentary use while the walk down the Mapara Native Bush Track to the lake – via indigenous ferns and trees – is truly idyllic. Back at base, there’s a small library – featuring books, CDs, magazines, newspapers and board games – while complimentary WiFi and laptop keeps you connected.
