Introduction
Once prosperous and politically stable, Zimbabwe has been in the grip of a political and economic crisis for years. With some light at the end of the tunnel, there's hope this once attractive and hospitable country will return to travellers' itineraries.
Most of the attractions are wild. Victoria Falls isn't the tallest waterfall in the world but it's certainly the largest. Spray from the cascades is visible 30km away and soaks all that come to gawp at the spectacle. To get a true understanding of the scale of this natural wonder though take a light aircraft flight over the Falls, which feed into the mighty Zambezi River, which deserves to be explored as well.
Elsewhere, enjoy the natural beauty of Mana Pools National Park, hike in the Mavuradonha Wilderness, go in search of wildlife in Matapos National Park or Hwange National Park, keep an eye out for birds and animals around the scenic Lake Kariba or take in the largest stone structure in sub-Saharan Africa at the ancient city of Great Zimbabwe.
