Location
Amankora Punakha is just a short drive north of the impressive 17th century Punakha Dzong administrative centre and the Phuntsho Pelri Palace. You can access the resort by crossing a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu, or Mother River. The resort is designed around a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse that was built by a former Je Khenpo, or Chief Abbot of Bhutan, to oversee the surrounding rice paddies and fruit orchards.
Accommodation
There are eight suites at the hotel, that are located in three rammed-earth buildings set in an orange orchard with views across the rice paddies and up the Punakha Valley. Suites feature a combined lounge, king-sized bed, reading chair and window banquette. Each room also has a spacious bathroom with a terrazzo-clad bath, twin vanities, a separate shower and toilet.
Dining
The Dining Room is situated on the ground floor, and serves Western and Bhutanese cuisine. It’s advised to enjoy breakfast and lunch in the courtyard, for beautiful views, and dinner in the main Dining Room where you can mingle with other guests.
Facilities
The farmhouse’s central Courtyard is excellent for dining and relaxation during Punakha’s temperate months. Adjacent to this is a Tea Pavilion, and a two-story spa that has a yoga and meditation room, two private treatment rooms, and a steam room. There is also an intimate relaxation area, and a traditional altar room for prayer and meditation.
