Location
Camp Kalahari sits on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, one of the largest and most striking salt flats in the world. Easily accessible by light aircraft or a scenic drive from Maun, Camp Kalahari is located within a private concession on Brown Hyena Island. The camp is surrounded by swaying mokolwane palms and acacia trees, offering a surprising oasis in this vast and dramatic landscape.
Accommodation
The camp’s twelve traditional Meru-style tents, decorated with a mix of colonial antiques and local crafts, create a cosy retreat after a day of exploration. Each tent is designed for comfort, featuring en-suite bathrooms, four poster beds and private verandas overlooking the vast, shimmering salt pans.
Dining
Dining at Camp Kalahari is a relaxed yet delicious affair, blending hearty home-style cooking with the adventure of an authentic safari. Meals are served ‘family-style’ at the long table in the open-air dining tent or beneath the vast Kalahari sky, where lantern-lit dinners become part of the experience.
Facilities
At Camp Kalahari, the safari experience is unlike any other. Venture out on game drives to spot Kalahari lions, brown hyenas, and herds of zebra during their spectacular migration. Meet the iconic meerkats, watching them up close as they scurry and forage. Experience a thrilling quad bike or horseback safari across the endless pans, where the horizon stretches forever, and the silence is absolute. Spend time walking with the Zu/’hoasi Bushmen, who share their deep knowledge of the land, teaching ancient survival skills and storytelling under the stars. Back at camp the swimming pool provides the perfect place to cool off on a hot afternoon, or retreat to the library and living area adorned with African antiques for some relaxation.
