Location
The Cougar Ridge Lodge can be found just outside the peaceful town of Torrey in Wayne County, Utah, 8 miles from Capitol Reef National Park. Deep in canyon country, Bryce Canyon National Park, Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park are all around 2-3 hours drive away.
Accommodation
The hand-crafted lodge has four beautifully appointed master suites, which can be rented out individually but the main facilities are shared. There is a range of amenities on offer including steam room, sauna and large hot tub on the wraparound deck, as well as a two-lane bowling alley and golfing simulator (priced separately). The seven casitas are self-contained and offer 2 bedrooms, living area with flat-screen TV, granite and oak kitchenette, bathroom and deck with Traegar BBQ grill.
Dining
Meals can be arranged in advance and there are plenty of restaurants in the nearby towns of Torrey or Boulder. Here it’s all about self-catering on the woodchip Traegar BBQ grills, you may even be able to cook something you’ve caught on a guided hunt! The hosts are happy to organise a complete itinerary for you, in which case all meals and activities are included in the price.
Facilities
The owner, running this successful ranch retreat in his retirement, prides himself on attention to every detail. Just some of the activities on offer include guided exploration of the surrounding outdoors and Utah National Parks, wine appreciation and cooking classes, as well as wood-working, stone carving and metal shop. There is world-class fly fishing available on the Fremont River, or you can go angling for Browns in the crystal-clear lakes of Boulder Mountain. Guided hunts for elk, deer, bison or pheasant can be arranged or explore the spectacular scenery on horseback.
