A National Historic Site of Canada, Dalvay by the Sea was originally built in 1895 by Alexander Macdonald and named after his childhood Scottish home. Made famous by Anne of Green Gables, the property has appeared in the films and is a great base from which to explore this charming area.
Location
Dalvay by the Sea is located on the northern shore of Price Edward Island and is a 25-minute drive from Charlottetown. From Moncton, New Brunswick the drive will take just over two hours, crossing the Federation Bridge.
Accommodation
The hotel offers 25 guest rooms and eight cottages, which stand in the grounds. All are traditionally-appointed with charming antiques and period furnishings. There are no televisions, telephones or radios in the main inn guest rooms although Wi-Fi is available throughout. The cottages are traditional in style with three bedrooms, large sitting area and wet bar/fridge for drinks and snacks. The cottages do not have kitchen facilities.
Dining
The MacMillan Dining Room is open to guests and locals and offers superb regional dishes in a relaxed setting. Menus change seasonally.
Facilities
Alongside the glorious beach walks and Anne of Green Gables history there is plenty to do during your time at Dalvay. Bicycles are available to hire and there is canoeing, kayaking and boating on Dalvay Lake, there are some excellent golf courses close by too, along with tennis and lawn bowling.
