Location
Unlike the larger granitic islands, noted for their verdant slopes and grey, granite boulders, Denis is a privately owned, flat coral island about 95 km north of Mahé – a mere 120 hectares of emerald-green forest and white-sand beach. A stay here is an unapologetically back-to-nature experience, but one swaddled in luxury.
Accommodation
Air-conditioned individual cottages are secreted away amid casuarina and coconut trees and have their own private beachfront, sea-facing terrace and openair bathroom with massage beds set in a corner-plot gazebo.
Dining
From beach barbeques to private in-room dining, the cuisine at Denis Private Island is of exceptional quality. The freshest seafood, extensive buffets, live cooking stations and Creole speciality nights are just some of the tantalising treats on offer. For a touch of elegance, the five-course table d'hôte dinners are not to be missed and the resort's extensive wine cellar ensures every meal is accompanied by the very best from both the new and old world.
Facilities
Spa treatments are delivered in-villa and the coconut oil used by the island’s masseuses is made there on the island – one of several items produced by the small but successful estate farm that helps Denis to be virtually self-sufficient. Being right on the edge of the Seychelles Bank means the waters nearby plunge to depths of up to 2,000 m, supporting an extraordinary concentration of marine life. Diving and snorkelling are both sublime, big game fishing is among the best in the world and turtles are known to nest near the entrance to the restaurant.
