Lodges | Wildlife
Although positioned on the wild, impossibly verdant steppe that runs up to the Ngorongoro Crater, this is a slice of instantly recognisable old-world charm. Accommodation comes in the form of whitewashed cottages, all-inclusive gourmet dining and fine drinks are taken in the grand manor, and a full spread of activities showcase the Big-Five national parks and the lodge’s 1,500-acre coffee estate at their absolute best.
Inside, expect the finest in Victorian-era style, with suites featured roaring fireplaces, claw-foot baths and open terraces with glorious views of the surrounding hills, laden with coffee bushes. The unique sense of style continues right into Cape-Dutch-style main lodge, where all-inclusive drinks are taken at the dark-wood bar or on plush chaise longues. The dining is equally impressive.
Of course, Ngorongoro Crater demands special attention. This extinct volcano is often cited as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, safely harbouring giant herds of elephant and the famous Big Five. Included game drives focus here and nearby Lake Manyara National Park’s flamingo-studded beauty, but there’s plenty more to do closer to home. Don’t miss out on a horse ride through the coffee plantation, perhaps capping it off with a deep-tissue massage or sundowner cocktail.
