Location
The resort hugs the sun-soaked Wailea Beach on America’s 50th state’s second largest island. Fronted by golden sands and a dazzling reef system, best explored by snorkel, it’s framed by the island’s verdant interior. Perhaps take a drive into Maui’s upcountry where cool mountain air rests over sweeping farmland or head to Iao, a lush stream-carved valley set between towering green walls. You’ll also find 19th century whaling towns in Lahaina, dormant volcanoes and world-class surfing. Just 25 minutes off the resort’s shores, Molokini Crater is the perfect spot for gentle snorkelling or adventurous dives among bright tropical fish and sea turtles. And, between December and March, there’s even the possibility of spotting whales.
Accommodation
Set among the palm trees of its tropical gardens, this palatial resort angles its 380 guest rooms to give as many as possible a glimpse of the azure Pacific. All rooms feature sitting areas, marble bathrooms and private lanai, or balconies, complete with ocean, garden or mountain views. The 75 luxury suites offer living areas separated from bedrooms with plantation style doors. All guests are treated to daily newspapers, movies on demand and twice-daily housekeeping.
Dining
Every taste and whim is catered for between the resort’s four restaurants. Enjoy Hawaiian and California fusion food and ocean views on the terraces of Spago or dine under the stars at Ferraro’s Italian restaurant where tempting aromas from the wood-burning oven combine with floral scents from the resort’s gardens. There’s also the poolside Duo Steak and Seafood, where chefs put on a show in the open kitchen as the sun sets over Maui. There’s also 24-hour room service available on your very own balcony.
Facilities
As the only hotel on Maui not to charge a resort fee, the Four Seasons offers a fantastic range of complimentary activities. Whether it’s tennis, putting golf, table tennis, a video games room, croquet or exercising in the fitness centre, there’s something for everyone. There’s also snorkel equipment available and a daily introductory scuba clinic as well as canoe excursions and daily fitness classes, including Pilates. Guests are treated to ice water, chilled towels, poolside bites and sunscreen at the resort’s pools, beach and cabanas. For an additional fee, you’ll also have access to helicopter tours, spa, horseback rides and waterfall hikes.
