Perched on the oceanfront of Puerto Ayora, this eco offering is backed by mangrove forest and fronted by gorgeous views over Academy Bay. It’s all taken in by a private restaurant deck and a superb selection of comfortable rooms. Of course, you’ll also want to explore, and the Habitat offers a full range of island-hopping tours, showcasing the best of the unique wildlife.
Although the amenities of the Galápagos’s largest town are within walking distance of the hotel, the Habitat is delightfully secluded, with sea lions and pelicans on its doorstep. Indeed, marine iguanas are a common sight, mingling with guests on the sun loungers; the hotel’s delightful timber construction blends right in with its privileged setting. The deck-side restaurant and bar are a further highlight, where premium drinks are paired with grill fineries. Unsurprisingly, the seafood is excellent, with octopus and codfish gracing the menus.
What’s more, there are just 17 rooms here, offering a concerted sense of intimacy. While you’ll have to choose between ocean and mangrove views, all feature a considered aesthetic of exposed-beam ceilings, plush furnishings and polished-wood floors. The suites even come with a private balcony, while the likes of air con and WiFi round off the amenities.
This being the Galápagos, there’s also plenty of opportunity to take in the local natural wonders. Alongside multi-night cruises, the hotel’s daily programme will see you hop between islands, bringing you between coral beaches and lava fields. On hikes, kayaking trips and snorkel dives, expect to spot everything from blue-footed boobies and giant tortoises to lava lizards and sea lions.
