Location
Some 250 kilometres south of Lima, Paracas Bay is a sparkling jewel, ideal as a relaxing pre or post Andean retreat. It’s perfectly situated for those looking to explore more of Peru’s natural world and the intriguing history of the country’s central coast. Maybe bear witness to the mysterious Nazca Lines, a series of ancient geoglyphs scratched into a desert by pre-Incan inhabitants or head to Tambo Colorado where ruins reveal an Incan army rest stop. There’s also the Paracas Nature Reserve where you’ll find everything from flamingos and red-legged cormorants to Humboldt penguins and Peruvian boobies. Of course, there’s also the resort’s beach, the wildlife of Islas Ballestas and Pisco, the birthplaces of Peru’s favourite cocktail.
Accommodation
Resolutely contemporary, there’s something likably Mediterranean about the resort’s clean lines and whitewashed walls. All feature private terraces – complete with wicker furniture – where you’ll be treated to sea or garden views while 400-thread-count linen, chaise lounges and soaking tubs round off the features. Upgrade to a Balcony or Solarium Suite for an improved ocean vantage point and spa-like bathrooms complete with marble countertops and amenities by Gilchrist & Soames. In turn, enjoy the eponym of the Plunge Pool suite whose balcony location offers yet more of those gorgeous sea views.
Dining
Perhaps inspired by the architecture, Chef Franco Rivadeneyra has crafted sophisticated menus that combine Peruvian flavours with classic Mediterranean dishes. In its signature Ballestas Restaurant you’ll enjoy the catch of the day – sourced locally – while the Trattoria brings an authentic taste of Italy to Peru’s central coasts in pizza favourites and pasta delicacies. There’s also harbour-side Chalana Restaurant where daily specials make the most of sustainable ingredients supplied by the local fishermen and farmers. Lastly, the poolside Zarcillo Bar is a favourite for its light bites and creative cocktails.
Facilities
While you might be caught up in the hotel’s surrounds, the resort itself demands to be explored. There are two heated pools, an adjacent beach, an excellent spa and a state-of-the-art fitness centre complete with weights, cardiovascular equipment and personal TVs. Or head out to explore with yacht cruises, desert adventures, nature tours and sightseeing flights. There’s also a range of watersports on offer with catamarans, kayaks and paddleboards available for rent. Snorkel hire is complimentary.
