This farmhouse-style inn is set in the picturesque wine country town of Occidental, moments from the wineries of Sonoma and just an hour's drive from San Francisco.
Just 16 guest rooms and a private cottage are charm embodied in polished wood furnishings and four poster beds, with some suites even featuring spa tubs and private entrances. Or, go one up and opt for the stone-framed fireplaces, squashy sofas and soaring ceilings of the private cottage, with two king-bed bedrooms and spa tubs. Whichever you choose, take advantage of the in-room massages, where everything from Swedish to reflexology is on the menu.
One of the inn's many draws is its fabulous breakfasts – and rightly so, with local, Sonoma-harvest ingredients creating indulgent feasts, taken among the stone hearths of the Wine Cellar dining room. Expect such delights as orange cream-stuffed French toast and polenta-crusted quiche with leeks and bacon. Come evening, there's an abundance of nearby dining choices, from Californian-Mediterranean Hazel to regional pub fare in Barley & Hops Tavern.
A stay here is best paired with emblematic drives along the rugged Cali coast between Bodega Bay and Jenner, studded with sea stacks and winding, redwood-lined roads, where art galleries, wild beaches and, of course, world-class wineries await. Take advantage of the complimentary Tasting Passes provided by the inn, allowing you to sample the best wines of Sonoma County – they'll even map a wine trail for you based on your favourite varietals.
