Location
On three, four and seven night cruises, guests travel deep into the Amazon’s rainforests to discover a world of abundant wildlife, delicate ecosystems and fascinating local cultures. Departing from Iquitos in the country’s remote northeast you’ll track pink dolphins and taricaya turtles before making use of skiffs to explore the river’s tributaries where three-toed sloths, toucans and macaws hide among dense canopies only to be pointed out by your expert naturalist guides. On longer routes, jungle treks, piranha fishing and tribe visits will bring you even closer to this unique part of the world.
Accommodation
In 2015, the Aria Amazon enjoyed a full refresh bringing extra polish to architect-designed interiors. Each of the 16 suites feature giant floor to ceiling windows to make the most of lush river views while locally-sourced timber flooring, natural fibre sofas and Peruvian cotton sheets make for exquisitely comfortable stays. Relax, binoculars in hand, on your window-side day bed while the greatest riverside drama plays out right in front of you. And, while the overall effect is decidedly contemporary, en suite rain showers and organic bath amenities nod towards the ship’s unrivalled backdrop.
Dining
Executive chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino treads carefully between the innovative flavours of the Amazon and classic Peruvian tastes in cuisine that’s as refined as the dining room’s interiors. The walls are lined with local artwork while fine china and crystal glassware are the perfect accompaniment to yet more of those gorgeous views. And the staff don’t just learn your names; they take on board tastes and preferences. You might like your Amazon bass tiradito served with a touch more South American spice or to take home the recipe to the hearts of palm soufflé.
Facilities
Enjoying a staff to guest ratio nearing one to one – including a paramedic and four English-speaking natural guides – you can be sure that you’ll be well looked after on each step of your voyage. And, with excursions that range from motorised tributary launches to fishing expeditions, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to explore Amazonia in all its natural beauty. Back on board, make use of the indoor and outdoor lounges, complete with outdoor Jacuzzi, to drink in the view accompanied by a fine cocktail or vintage wine or get your exercise fix in the workout room.
