Hidden high amidst Costa Rica’s rainforest canopy, Pacuare Lodge is a haven of a hotel. It’s remote but refined, with just 20 suites overlooking the Pacuare River. Indeed, such is the drama of its location, guests have the chance for a truly unique arrival – by white water raft.
Nature is all around at all moments and immersing yourself in this wonderful environment - whether by rainforest walk, canopy zip-line or raft - is the reason to stay here.
Suites are decked out in hardwood floors leading out to terraces set amid the forest and birdsong, most with hammocks, private spring-fed pools and outdoor showers. The en-suite bathrooms are designed to make the most of the surroundings, with huge windows framing tropical trees and dramatic foliage. Suites are spacious, with vast beds and day-beds, and a multitude of candles to lend more magic to the electricity-free environment.
It’s not completely cut-off though – there is WiFi in the lobby, but with a sumptuous Shaman spa, superb cuisine and the glory of the great Costa Rican outdoors on every doorstep, staying off-line adds to the luxury. And in between adventures, do allow time to relax in the riverside infinity pool.
