Location
Located on the eastern edge of Tucson, this is one of the state’s – and indeed the USA’s – finest ranches. With easy access to the next-door Saguaro National Park, it blends comfortable, ranch-style accommodation with the chance to explore one of Arizona’s wildest regions – one host to spectacular desert landscapes and native wildlife. Of course, as one of America’s old-time cattle ranches – it dates back to 1868 – guests will also have the chance to experience a full programme of activities. We can add a Tanque Verde Ranch stay to any of our Arizona itineraries.
Accommodation
The ranch is home to a range of accommodation options, dotted throughout the property. From the campfires and grassy courtyards of Quail Hollow to the cactus-framed Salas and Casitas of Desert Garden, guests can expect a full range of modern amenities complemented by design and furnishings inspired by the Old West. Expect traditional adobe walls, Sante Fe-style architecture and magical views across the desert and mountains. The rooms at Javelina Heights are a particular favourite for their gorgeous sunsets.
Dining
Food and drink play a vital role in the Tanque Verde experience, with meals served in the dining room and across a range of speciality dining venues, both indoor and al fresco. The breakfasts are a hearty southwestern affair, with eggs, bacons and sausages paired with lighter options, from fresh fruit to cinnamon rolls and granola. Generous lunches are served buffet-style, while in the evenings, dinner menus feature the likes of fully stacked burgers and perfectly cooked salmon and steaks. Culinary events include chef’s tables, beer festivals and, our favourite, the cowboy cookout – a down-home ranch BBQ experience.
Facilities & activities
As a dude ranch, Tanque Verde hosts a full programme of outdoor experiences, designed to get you in the cowboy spirit. Choose between horseback rides, jeep and UTB adventures, desert hikes, fishing, mountain biking and cave exploration off site, while on the ranch itself there are swimming pools, yoga classes and even a spa. Our tip? Don’t miss the Saguaro Adventure ride, a half-day horseback excursion into the Rincon Mountains, which will bring you up close to the unique nature of the vast Sonoran Desert.
