Location
Set within the 15,000-hectare Thornybush Reserve in the Greater Kruger Park in the northeast corner of South Africa, Thornybush Game Lodge is a prime destination for wildlife viewing. The nature reserve shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park, where a vast variety of animal species roam in the wilderness, including the Big Five. You can enjoy a whole host of different safari experiences here, from classic game drives and guided bush walks to special occasion safaris and private photoshoots.
Accommodation
Each of Thornybush Game Lodge’s 16 Luxury Suites are elegantly decorated with warm, natural colour tones and textures to create a classic safari aesthetic. With outdoor showers, large windows above the bath and giant sliding doors opening out to a wooden deck, they offer superb views of the bush and the possibility of spotting wildlife from the comfort of your accommodation.
Dining
Delicious breakfasts and lunches are served in the thatched main bar area overlooking the river bed, while dinner is served either à la carte indoors or in the boma under the starry night sky. There’s also the option of enjoying lantern-lit dinners out in the bush – a truly magical experience. Chef Solly’s oxtail stew and Ottolenghi-style salads are particular favourites.
Facilities
There’s no shortage of ways to relax at the lodge when you’re not out in the bush on game drives. Indulge in soothing spa treatments, take a dip in the pool, unwind on the sun deck or settle in with a drink or two at the bar. There are indoor and outdoor lounge areas, too. The lodge is solar-powered during the day and is a plastic-free zone. If you’re on the lookout for a souvenir, be sure to have a browse in the on-site gift shop.
