Routeburn Track

Consistently ranked among the world’s top ten hikes, the Routeburn Track, which starts at the northern end of Lake Wakitipu, showcases some of New Zealand’s most spectacular alpine views. This comprehensive day-long taste will start with a swing bridge crossing into Beech Forest. You’ll then emerge to trace the Routeburn River as it carves through a magnificent gorge before plunging beneath the rocks. A gentle ascent through an ancient world of ferns, mosses and lichens will then have your sights set on snow-capped peaks, using waterfalls as scenic rest spots. Along the way, your guide will explain the route’s importance to the native wildlife, the early pioneers and, before them, the native Maori.
