Introduction
Australiasia and the Pacific is home to some extraordinary endemic wildlife, much of it synonymous with the countries they originate from.
In Australia, kangaroos and koalas are obvious animals to see, whilst wombats, quolls, quokkas, spiny echidnas and Tasmanian Devils may be harder to spot. Head to Kakadu National Park, the Blue Mountains, Daintree Forest, Freycinet National Park, Kangaroo Island, Heron Island or Cradle Mountain to give yourself the best chance of seeing some of this exceptional wildlife. Travel to the Great Barrier Reef or Ningaloo Marine Park to see whales, dolphins, dugongs and a wealth of marine wildlife.
New Zealand's birdlife is just as outlandish, with a number of flightless bird species such as the kiwi found here. Head to Maungatautari to see takahe, kiwi, kaka, hihi and kokopu or travel to the outlying Tiritiri Matangi Islands for some exceptional bird spotting. Stewart Island is the place to see kiwi. The Catlins Coast is the place to see fur seals, sea lions, penguins and sea birds, whilst Kaikoura is the place to see dolphins, sperm whales and orca.
These are just a handful of the options available though. You can also tailor-make your wildlife holiday to Australasia and the Pacific by adding a city stay, activity and adventure holiday or other excursion to your itinerary; talk to a destination specialist to see what we can do for you.
