Introduction
The town of Livingstone - named after the missionary and explorer Dr David Livingstone - grew during colonial times, and Edwardian-era buildings still line its main street today. The Livingstone Museum, dating from 1930, is a popular attraction, with Livingstone memorabilia and exhibits from the colonial days, as well as galleries about the local Bantu people and Zambia's independence in 1964.
In recent times, Livingstone's proximity to Victoria Falls and the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambian side of the falls, has led to its emergence as the region's adventure capital. Whitewater rafting, scenic helicopter flights, horse riding, sport fishing, bungee jumping and sunset cruises on the Zambezi are some of the activities on offer.
