Introduction
A few hours drive from Bangkok and a short ferry ride across the Gulf of Thailand lies the pretty island of Koh Samet, known for its lovely sandy beaches and a dry climate.
These factors have make it an ideal getaway for Thais living in the capital, and it can get busy at weekends and during public holidays as a result. However, that same proximity also makes it an easy addition to a stay in Bangkok, offering a quick fix of Thai beach life without having to fly to the southern islands.
Koh Samet is part of a marine park, the Khao Laem Ya - Mu Ko Samet National Park, with some attractive coral reefs that offer decent snorkelling and diving.
