Introduction
Home to the well-known Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, this is a great place to see orangutans up close.
An area of preserved rainforest next to the educational centre is home to orphan and other rescued orangutans, and the younger ones come to feed on bananas and milk twice a day at a series of feeding platforms positioned among the trees.
This is part of a gradual process to enable the orangutans to readjust to their natural habitat and, in time, be able to live without the help of the centre's human trainers and to fend for themselves in the surrounding rainforest.
It's a wonderful experience and a genuine thrill to see the young orangutans swinging on ropes and clambering onto branches.
