Introduction
Tham Chang is the most renowned of Vang Vieng's numerous karst caves and rocky outcrops.
Found on the opposite bank of the Nam Song to the village, Tham Chang passes under a mountain and is fed by a natural spring, from where it's possible to swim a fair distance into the cave.
Other caves - such as the ‘sleeping cave', ‘elephant cave' and ‘water cave'- are full of large stalactites and stalagmites, Buddha statues and crystal-clear pools.
Local guides, torches and hard helmets are recommended.
