Introduction
Cayo Levisa is a small island on the Colorados Archipelago. Situated to the west of Havana, it lies just over a mile from the shore of mainland Cuba. The tiny island is fringed by white sands and surrounded by beautiful and vibrant corals, which are protected under the National System of Marine Protection. Scuba diving around Cayo Levisa is therefore excellent and very popular, making this another Cuba travel highlight. Angel fish, schools of jacks and barracudas are frequent sightings among the reefs here.
Maria La Gorda is further west still, on the fertile shores of the Guanahacabibes Peninsula. It's arguably the best place to go diving in Cuba, with several offshore wrecks, underwater caves, tunnels and drop offs. Take the plunge and you'll likely spot barracudas, moray eels, rays, turtles and possibly even whale sharks. The water is clear, warm and sheltered, which means that it's nearly always calm.
