For centuries Guanajuato was the wealthiest city in Mexico thanks to the silver and gold pouring from its mines; today its riches reveal narrow alleys, churches, museums and buildings in a riot of colours and symmetries.
Guanajuato's warren of streets is reminiscent of the medieval quarters of Seville, Granada and Fez and it is a joy to wander the narrow cobbled streets discovering plenty of hidden gems.
