Introduction
The ‘White City' of Merida (named so because of it's sparkling limestone buildings) is the capital of Yucatan state and the peninsula's leading town.
Merida's plazas are full of markets and entertainment, while every street features a colonial church or mansion.
There are good beaches nearby and the town makes an ideal base for excursions to the great Maya sites of Ek Balam, Uxmal and Chichen Itza.
