The ancient city of Jerash has been occupied continuously for 6,500 years and comes a close second to Petra as a top Jordan attraction. It was conquered by Emperor Pompey in 63 BC and became one of the ten great Roman cities of the Decapolis League.

Jerash was known as Gerasa in Roman times and its cultural heritage makes it a popular tailor made holiday option. Archaeological remains include handsome theatres, colonnaded streets, baths, grand public squares, fountains and hilltop temples. Today, chariot-race re-enactments are staged daily in the hippodrome in Jerash.
