Introduction
Katmai National Park has an abundance of volcanoes, bears and wilderness to discover. Take a kayak trip to explore the Sovonoski Loop or travel to Brooks Camp for brown bear viewings at the waterfall.
Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes
Bus tours operate for you to explore the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. This national monument is a large ash flow from the eruption of Novarupta in June 1912. Novarupta is one of the remaining active volcanoes in the park and feeds from the Pacific Ring of Fire to explain its relatively frequent eruptions.
Historic and archeological sites
Brook River and Amalik Bay are both historic and archeological landmarks. You'll enjoy the Cultural Walk in Katmai National Park to explore Brook River. Or climb Dumpling Mountain for views of the river and Naknek Lake. Make yourself at home in Fure's cabin which is found in Naknek Lake's Bay of Islands.
