Introduction
Kenai Peninsula offers national and state parks where you can observe wildlife in its natural habitat. The many inlets make kayaking trips a possibility, but head further inland for museums that recall Alaska's Russian heritage. You'll admire the Kenai Mountains, ice fields and four active volcanoes. Round off the experience by taking a cruise to see Exit Glacier, where trails take you close to its edge.
Visit Resurrection Bay to see puffins and sea lions alongside the spectacular scenery. At Kenai Fjords National Park you'll find waterfalls, glaciers and whales. Or you could always try out the Swan Lake Canoe Route in Kenai Natural Wildlife Refuge.
Kenai is the largest city on the peninsula and offers an abundance of salmon fishing in the Kenai River. Take a boat trip to Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge to indulge in the finest seafood. While there you can also try kayaking around Kachemak Bay State Park.
Enjoy the arts and crafts scene in Homer Spit. You'll find yourself soaking up the atmosphere with the locals at Salty Dawg Saloon. And don't miss the opportunity to dine in the 'Halibut Capital of the World'. For a similar feast in a tranquil location you'll have to take a boat trip to Halibut Cove.
Also sail from Homer to tour Kodiak Island for its bear watching, diving and outdoor activities.
