Introduction
Iquitos is the principal town in Peru's jungle region. A pleasant tropical city, it is accessible only by air or river and thus maintains the feel of a frontier town.
Despite its isolation, Iquitos is gaining a reputation for gastronomy and fine restaurants and is well noted for the opulent houses built in the 19th century with money from the rubber export boom.
Iquitos is the best place to discover the Peruvian Amazon, with its luxury river cruises, jungle lodges, and pink dolphins.
