Day by day itinerary

Day 1
UK to Saint John

Relax with included airport lounge access before your indirect flight to Saint John, New Brunswick’s, Canada’s first incorporated city. Collect your rental car and head for your overnight accommodation. You'll then have the rest of the day free to explore the city, one steeped in history with highlights that include the old city market, Place Fort La Tour, Area 506 Waterfront Container Village and probably the most famous – the Reversing Falls.

Stay: Crowne Plaza Saint John Harbour view (Superior)

Day 2
Saint John/Fundy National Park

This morning we suggest a city tour of Saint John before departing to join the spectacular Fundy Coastal Drive. En-route visit St. Martins to explore the Fundy Trail Provincial Park. A multi use trail system that allows access by car, bike and on foot. Continue eastbound to the Fundy National Park with its steep coastal cliffs, forest clad hills, deep rich valleys and clear, rolling meadows.

Stay: Innisfree B&B, Hopewell Rocks (Superior)

Day 3
Fundy National Park

Enjoy a day at leisure to explore this magnificent national park. The park is renowned for its hiking trails, with over 104kms of trails to choose from, ranging from easy loops to a demanding 50km circuit around the park. The park is also a haven for bird watchers, golfers, cyclists, canoeists and naturalists. Other sightseeing suggestions include visiting Cape Enrage Lighthouse and Mary’s Point Bird Sanctuary located nearby.

Stay: Innisfree B&B, Hopewell Rocks (Superior)

Day 4
Fundy National Park to Shediac

Today be sure to visit Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park – home of Hopewell Rocks. Visit the excellent interpretive centre on site before exploring this natural phenomenon. Twice each day the highest tides in the world — up to 46ft/14m — flood the beach, and twice each day you can explore the floor of the Bay of Fundy at low tide! Created over thousands of years by the Bay of Fundy’s awesome tidal forces, the Flowerpot Rocks are a natural wonder not to be missed. Then onto the Lobster fishing town of Shediac, where your accommodation for the night is a historic inn built around 1840 with spectacular vies of Shediac Bay. We recommend perhaps pre-booking a Shediac Lobster Tales Tour which departs at daily in July and August - you can see a demonstration of cracking, followed by a lobster meal.

Stay: Hotel Shediac, Shediac (Superior)

Day 5
Shediac to Miramichi

Depart Moncton and follow the Acadian Coastal drive north through coastal towns and villages. Take time to visit Kouchibouguac National Park. The Park is a stunning display of beaches and sand dunes sweeping over 26 kilometres. Continue on and join the scenic Miramichi River Route, which travels through the many communities that make up the Miramichi region. The city is made up of many unique shops, restaurants and heritage sites.

Spend the day exploring Miramichi. Take a stroll along one of the many hiking trails around French Fort Cove, visit St. Michael’s Basilica – one of the finest examples of gothic architecture in Canada, take in the Beaverbrook House – the boyhood home of Lord Beaverbrook or relax and try your hand at a spot of fishing – the Miramichi River is a world famous salmon fishing river.

Stay: Rodd Miramichi River (Superior)

Day 7
Miramichi/Edmundston

Take a leisurely drive, following the Acadian Coastal Drive on to Bathurst. Bathurst is home of the Royal Canadian Legion War Museum, take a stroll around the delightful Bathurst Harbour, then continue along the scenic Appalachian Range Route. Follow the River Valley Scenic Drive into the upper St. John River Valley area and Edmundston – this pleasant city offers fine dining, dramatic architecture and defiant history with a French flavour. Edmundston is also home to the Petit Temis Inter Provincial Linear Park – 130kms of bicycle and hiking trails along the magnificent Madawaska River.

Stay: Four Points Sheraton, Edmundston (Superior)

Day 8
Edmundston/Fredericton

Depart Edmundston and drive the spectacular River Valley Scenic Drive, which hugs the St. John River, arguably the most picturesque river in Atlantic Canada. A stop at the Grand Falls Gorge is a must, as is a stop at Hartland to see the longest covered bridge in the world – a man made 390-metre long construction.

Stay: Fredericton Inn, Fredericton (Superior)

Day 9
Fredericton

Welcome to picturesque Fredericton, New Brunswick’s capital city noted for its heritage and culture. Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring Fredericton and its attractions. Places to visit include City Hall, Christchurch Cathedral, the Historic Military Compound, Old Government House and the Kings Landing Historical Settlement. Further afield visit the picturesque model town of Oromocto and the charming village of Gagetown.

Stay: Fredericton Inn, Fredericton (Superior)

Day 10
Fredericton/St. Andrews

Depart Fredericton and drive southwest to St. Stephen – the town where the first chocolate bar was invented and the gateway to the Fundy Coastal Drive. Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring this tranquil area.

Stay: Algonquin Resort, St. Andrews (Superior)

Day 11
St. Andrews

Enjoy a tall ship nature cruise departing from St. Andrews, cruise through the narrow island passages of the Deer Island Archipelago en route to the open Bay of Fundy. In season, expect see whales, porpoises, seals, seabirds and bald eagles. Spend the remainder of the day discovering more about the area, visit the Huntsman Marine Science Aquarium, take in a round of golf or for the more adventurous why not try horseback riding, sea kayaking or scuba diving nearby.

In the afternoon eat your way through Saint John on an incredible guided walking tour, starting with a deliciously creamy seafood chowder.
