The world’s most iconic train – the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express – will debut three new Grand Suites in the spring of 2020. And, while the exact details remain a closely guarded secret, we can reveal that they’ll be built by the same master craftsmen at the train’s workshop in Clermont Ferrand as the three existing suites – Istanbul, Venice and Paris – and that they’ll be converted from the iconic car 3309. That's reputed to be the very same carriage reputed to have hosted a certain Agatha Christie when she had the inspiration for one of her most famous works – The Murder on the Orient Express.
Budapest Grand Suite
And, as well as doubling the capacity of this most exclusive section of the train, they’ll be following the theme of their predecessors by taking their names and design notes from three of the cities served by the VSOE’s continent-spanning routes, this time Vienna, Budapest and Prague. As such, you can expect to find everything from Budapest's Art Nouveau flourishes to Prague's Gothic severity while, in Vienna, there are nods to the city's Habsburg roots, showcased in a blend of Baroque fineries and the Art Deco sensibilities for which the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is known.

Once on board, guests will be treated to the ultimate in luxury rail travel, with intricate marquetry, Murano glass detailing and marble accents coming together to provide a truly opulent setting, And, it’s all enhanced by the likes of Baroque furniture, delicate silks and woven fabrics. Furthermore, each suite comes with its own en-suite bathroom and an option of double or twin beds alongside a personal butler who’ll be on hand to serve delectable in-cabin meals and champagne top-ups throughout the journey.
