Location
Travelling along the Marañón and Ucayali Rivers, you’ll explore the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. As one of the Amazon Rainforest’s best-preserved sections, you’ll be treated to an unspoilt jungle animated by a rich tapestry of wildlife. Explore creeks, tributaries and natural clearings in search of monkeys and over 1,500 species of bird. That’s over a fifth of the world’s avian population represented. Along the way, you’ll stop off for trail walks, fishing opportunities and kayak excursions. The Rescues & Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals is a particular highlight for its grand manatees.
Accommodation
The Delfin II hosts just 14 all-suite cabins meaning intimate cruises, far removed from an ocean-going package tour. Inside, tongue and groove timber panelling combines contemporary sensibilities with classic, nautical elegance as oversized, picture windows make the most of the ship’s unique routes. Watch – from your king size bed dressed in fine Peruvian cotton – as the open waters, jungle-strewn river banks and animal life of Amazonia drift past. Perhaps consider upgrading to one of the four Master Suites. Set at the front of the vessel, 180° windows invite in yet more of those gorgeous panoramas.
Dining
Peruvian cuisine has long been lauded on the international stage for its delicate creole combinations, fusing influences from around the world, brought by the country’s migrant population. And, with the Amazon as its garden, Delfin II’s kitchens use only locally sourced fresh ingredients to prepare contemporary feasts that reflect Peru’s cultural diversity. Handmade plates, table decorations that change each meal and live instrumental music combine to make for an indulgent atmosphere. And, thanks to the low passenger numbers, you can expect a personalised service.
Facilities
On board – in spite of the ship’s size – you’ll find a surprising array of amenities. There’s a multimedia deck lounge that hosts wildlife lectures, an open air observation deck, gym facilities and a massage room where a dedicated specialist serves up a range of rainforest-inspired treatments. In all, large windows mean you don’t miss a metre of the vibrant jungle scenery, best enjoyed with a drink from the bar. Of course, there’s also a range of excursions on offer. Between rainforest hikes, skiff launches, kayak and paddle boarding trips, piranha fishing, canopy walks and night safaris you’ll be kept as busy – or as relaxed – as you want. Don’t miss out on the chance to swim near the Amazon's famed pink dolphins.
