Location
Set on a centuries-old corn plantation, hidden away in a remote corner of Peru’s famed Sacred Valley, you’ll stay among the towering mountains that were once home to the great Inca Empire. And, with sustainability at its core – the hotel works closely with the Peruvian Archaeology Institute – you’ll have the opportunity to explore by foot or by bicycle some of the region’s world-famous sights including Ollantaytambo’s giant stepped ruins, Pisac’s terraced greenery and, yes, Machu Picchu’s famed views.
Accommodation
Drawing its inspiration from traditional Andean villages, explora Valle Sagrado has been specifically designed to blend into the environment with plans having to constantly change as work uncovered Inca ruins. However, in spite of its historic setting, rooms are decidedly modern. Blonde wood tongue and groove lines dramatically sloping ceilings as contemporary furnishings, exposed walls and textured fabrics round off a flawlessly contemporary aesthetic. Picture windows make the most of views out over the corn plantation to the surrounding valley.
Dining
Given that the hotel is geared around exploration, meals are designed to be lightweight yet robust, complementing its high altitude setting. You’ll be treated to the best in Andean cuisine where authentic flavours are imparted by an unwavering commitment to high quality, locally sourced ingredients. This being South America, you can also expect a premium wine list with each meal matched with an excellent vintage, sourced from across the continent. Its all-inclusive setup doesn’t hurt either.
Facilities
Undoubtedly, explora Valle Sagrado’s standout attraction is its spa. Housed in a colonial house dating back to the 17th century, it’s been lovingly converted by an expert archaeological team into a luxury treatment centre. Featuring massage rooms, saunas and heated swimming pools, it opens fully in October 2016 and is an ideal place to unwind after a day spent exploring. Speaking of which, you’ll be treated to a full range of excursions – transport included – to the valley’s cultural bounty.
If you fancy a stay here, we have a whole range of spectacular itineraries that will see you do just that, from taking in Peru's iconic sights to combining an Amazon cruise with exploring the Sacred Valley.
