Location

Denmark, originally established to supply timber for gold mining expeditions, is now better known for its forested hinterlands and winding river which provide a fitting backdrop to its stunning beaches. Denmark is well worth the 45 minutes’ drive from regional capital Albany. The chalets themselves are carefully nestled among the aroma of a rich karri forest, home to colourful parrots, delicate finches and rare cockatoos.

Accommodation

Indulge in some bird spotting from your balcony or fire up the barbecue as you stay on the lookout, this time with eyes on the ground, for indigenous possums and kangaroos. Chalets are available in a range of specifications and sizes but highlights include wood fires, spa baths and self-contained kitchens. Queen size beds and flat screen TVs round off an experience that brings a touch of comfort to a remote setting. Family-sized chalets come with a cosy mezzanine loft level, sleeping two, that affords extensive forest views.

Dining

With the balcony’s barbecue and fully-equipped kitchens, guests often opt to make the most of the intimacy of their forest setting by staying in for meals. Your chalet’s deck is also a fantastic location to enjoy a glass of something from one of Denmark’s wineries. However, if you fancy dining out, there are plenty of restaurants nearby. A firm favourite among guests, nearby Pepper & Salt serves modern Australian cuisine in an equally fantastic forest setting.

Facilities

As chalets are self-contained, the complex’s best amenity is its location on Australia’s southwest tip. An area of exceptional natural beauty, Denmark is best explored by walking through its forests, cliffs and, even, treetops. Enjoy the wildlife and wildflowers of nearby national parks or simply head to the white sands of Ocean Beach. More inland, there’s the aforementioned wineries which put on excellent tours and tasting opportunities.
