River cruise
Starting amid the French gastronomic heartlands, you’ll sail the Rhône and Saône rivers to where they flow into the Mediterranean Sea. Your journey begins in Lyon, where secret traboule passageways lead between the 19th-century basilicas and five centuries of artisanal silk production. Then, sailing into the Beaujolais region, you’ll have a choice of castle visits and wine tastings. Next, it’s Vienne, whose grand Roman amphitheatre hints at the region’s ancient past, also showcased on a village cycling tour. You’ll then have a choice between the great cathedral town of Viviers and the more provincial charms of Grignan, with its Renaissance castle. In Avignon, you’ll even enjoy an after-hours concert in a 14th-century palace, while the Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct, Châteauneuf-du-Pape tastings and Scenic Culinaire classes all compete for your attention during the day. And, as you close in on your final port, Tarascon, there’s everything from painting lessons onboard to olive-oil tastings and tours of the Roman ruins of Arles Arena.

1
UK to Lyon
Start your holiday in relaxed style with included UK airport lounge access before your flight to Lyon. If you'd prefer not to fly, speak to our specialists about our no-fly option, travelling on the Eurostar in Standard Premier Class from St. Pancras International to Paris, and onwards to Lyon. On arrival, you’ll be welcomed on board your Scenic river ship. If you’re unfamiliar with Scenic’s small-ship cruises, they position themselves as “beyond” 5-star luxury. That means an all-included spread of fine-dining meals, exceptional service and curated excursions. Their European river offerings are even billed – rather futuristically – as “Space-Ships” for their surprisingly expansive interiors.
