Introduction
Guilin has been famous since Tang times for its scenic location among rocky hills on the Li River.
The city is named after the native osmanthus trees, which provide shade along the riverside promenade that leads to Elephant Trunk Hill.
Another nearby peak, Fubo Shan, affords great views over the city, while the stalactites and stalagmites in Reed Flute Cave are also well worth seeing - particularly when lit up for the impressive light show.
