Introduction
A startling diversity of tropical flora and fauna can be seen within the Danum Valley, one of the most important and best-protected expanses of pristine lowland forest in South East Asia.
Rare animals including the Sumatran rhinoceros, clouded leopard, orangutan, western tarsier and mouse deer live in the valley, as do numerous species of insects, snakes and birds - hornbills and kingfishers among them.
Extensive nature trails and an excellent canopy walkway provide good wildlife spotting opportunities, while it is also possible to visit logging sites and timber mills to see at first hand the effects of deforestation.
