About

Location

Just a short one-hour drive from Osaka International Airport and two-hour drive from Kansai International Airport, Aman Kyoto is hidden among secluded gardens on the grounds of a former artistic community established hundreds of years ago. The hotel itself is nestled in lush forest, surrounded by moss-carpeted stonework and open glades perfect for picnicking in nature. A year-round temperate climate is accompanied by spectacular changing seasons – the plum and cherry trees blossom in March, and by October the leaves fade to warm reds and golds. And, you're within easy reach of Kyoto's 17 Unesco World Heritage Sites, including Kinkakuji, the golden temple.

Accommodation

The latticed pavilions and contemporary rooms throughout the hotel are inspired by a traditional Japanese Ryokan inn, filled with light and designed to encourage peace and harmony. A blend of traditional Japanese architecture and minimalist accents are paired with floor-to-ceiling windows, with views of the city or the surrounding gardens. All rooms feature spacious living areas and Hinoki Japanese baths, while the Tagakamine pavilion suite also includes a traditional Japanese Tatami room, western dining room and kitchen area. And, in the highest and most secluded area of the resort, the east-facing Washigamine Pavilion looks over the grounds, with access to private mediation gardens and a trekking path through the forest. If you're seeking a traditional Japanese Ryokan Inn experience, futons can also be provided in your Japanese Tatami room.

Dining

The Living Pavilion by Aman is an elegant dining space at the heart of the resort. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows immerse guests in the forested surroundings, opening out onto a terrace designed for dining or drinking al fresco. A menu of both regional dishes and Western favourites utilises the finest local ingredients, including Ohara free-range eggs, Kyoto Rice from Kobatake, and miso from Matsuno Shoyu. Afternoon tea is a charming affair, showcasing delicate Japanese confections made of mochi, anko and fruit, and if you're keen to get out into the fresh air, Aman's chefs will prepare you a picnic hamper to enjoy on a stroll. Come evening, relax around the central fireplace in the restaurant with a drink from the bar.

Facilities

During your stay at Aman Kyoto, guests are encouraged to learn traditional Japanese artforms, from Ikeneba, transforming seasonal flowers into beautiful arrangements, to the discipline of miniature garden design with expert gardeners to guide you. Local springs deliver mineral-rich water to the onsite spa and onsen bathing facilities, while luxurious treatments feature healing elements such as Kyoto green tea, tanba kuromame black beans, local sake and cold-pressed camellia oil. Practice yoga in a forest glade, take a two-hour hike and a hilltop meditation session, or simply venture into Kyoto to explore its unique history and culture.
